Black Screws

I think I finally found the best black screw solution. The process is called Salt Bath Nitriding and can be used on various steels, including stainless. Probably for this crowd, you’re most familiar with it as a finish on gun barrels (NOT gun bluing — this is much different). It’s a nitrocarburizing process typically using cyanide salt which donates extra carbon to the metal, resulting in a lot of property enhancements, but we’re only concerned with the fact that it will turn steel black, right? Anyways, I found a shop that will do a couple hundred screws for me. I’m looking forward to seeing how they turn out. At this volume it will add about $20 to the cost of the Torqbar to upgrade to black screws. Don’t ask me for them yet — I don’t know how long it will take to get them back. But I’ll offer to sell screw sets to existing Torqbar owners. I have a database that maintains all of the specific dimensions of every Torqbar I make so I can provide replacement parts to fit, or upgrades, like this.
